Hyderabad: Telangana Director General of Police C.V. Anand directed police accountants to uphold financial accountability and ensure complete transparency in the use of public funds. He said every rupee spent by the department belonged to the public and must be accounted for responsibly.
The DGP addressed a training programme for accountants from the Telangana Special Police Battalions on Tuesday. During the programme, he said financial accountability was a core responsibility and not a mere procedural requirement.
C.V. Anand said his recent district visits and review meetings with Superintendents of Police exposed gaps in budget management. In several cases, district police chiefs were not fully aware of their budgetary position.
He said he personally intervened in one instance where delays in releasing funds caused hardship to police personnel. Accordingly, he instructed officials to prevent such situations in future.
Financial accountability to guide fund management
The DGP said the State government had prioritised the timely release of funds for maintaining police stations. Therefore, he directed the Accounts Wing to ensure allocations reached Station House Officers without delay.
C.V. Anand said digitisation should strengthen financial scrutiny instead of weakening it. Furthermore, he instructed accountants to examine every bill carefully rather than simply forwarding Excel sheets and online files.
He warned that even minor lapses in scrutiny could have serious consequences. Consequently, officials responsible for financial irregularities would face legal proceedings and departmental action, including suspension or dismissal.
The DGP also directed officials to maintain accurate and transparent accounts for police welfare schemes, including health protection, loans and other welfare funds. Finally, he said proper management of these funds was essential because they directly affected police personnel and their families.
