Hyderabad: Komatikunta beautification works in Narsapur Municipality of Medak district have stalled midway, leaving residents disappointed.
The project aimed to clean the lake surroundings and create a pleasant public space. Plans included a walking track, greenery and lighting facilities around the water body.
Initially, the works progressed rapidly and raised hopes among Narsapur residents. However, contractors stopped the project after rainfall, and the remaining works have not resumed so far.
The government sanctioned Rs. 1.20 crore under urban development funds for the project. Work began soon after the funds were released, with around 50% of the project reportedly completed.
The stalled works are located along the Toopran route in Narsapur town. Meanwhile, residents are questioning why the project has not resumed despite the limited rainfall reported this year.
Locals said continuous work could have allowed the project to reach completion by now. Construction materials and unfinished structures remain at the site, while residents fear that garbage will again accumulate around the lake.
They believe completing the project would provide residents with a suitable place to relax during mornings and evenings. However, the delay has raised concerns about the use of public money and the original purpose of the project.
Komatikunta beautification works face payment delay
Residents have demanded that officials and the municipal administration complete the pending works without further delay. They also want authorities to ensure that the work already completed does not go to waste.
Locals have sought details about the funds sanctioned, the work completed so far and the reasons behind the stoppage. They have also urged officials to explain when the remaining project will resume.
The delay has affected plans for relocating statues of prominent personalities. Officials and leaders had earlier said the statues would be placed along the lake bund after the beautification work was completed.
The statues were removed during the expansion of the four-lane road and placed in the children’s park. Since the lake project remains incomplete, the statues continue to remain there.
Dalit organisation leaders and admirers have urged authorities to finish the beautification and install the statues at the planned location. They said the pending work should be completed at the earliest.
Narsapur Municipal Chairperson Lakshmiraju Yadav attributed the delay to contractor payments and rainfall. According to the chairperson, the contractor’s payments contributed to the stoppage, while rain also prevented the works from progressing.
Yadav said around 50% of the work had been completed so far. The chairperson also said the works would resume soon and the lake beautification project would be completed.
