Hyderabad: Gadhwal power cuts triggered a major farmers’ protest at Maldakal mandal headquarters in Jogulamba Gadwal district.
Farmers demanded uninterrupted 24-hour free electricity for agriculture. They blocked the Aija-Gadwal main road, protesting unannounced outages and low-voltage problems affecting their crops.
Gadhwal power cuts leave crops drying
Farmers said inadequate rainfall during the current cultivation season had increased their dependence on borewells. Although the government claimed to provide 24-hour free power, they alleged that quality electricity was not reaching the fields.
They said the supply remained unpredictable, with farmers unable to know when power would arrive or stop. Frequent interruptions and low voltage were also reportedly damaging agricultural motor pumps.
As a result, farmers said they faced heavy losses after motors repeatedly burned out. They expressed distress as their crops dried despite the effort and money invested in cultivation.
The protesters demanded immediate action to resolve the electricity problems. They also sought a continuous and quality power supply for agricultural needs.
Meanwhile, the road blockade disrupted traffic on the Aija-Gadwal route. Vehicles remained stranded on both sides, causing significant inconvenience to commuters for some time.
