Hyderabad: Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) Food Safety teams ordered the suspension of kitchen operations at Bahar Cafe in Madinaguda after identifying serious food safety and hygiene violations during an inspection conducted on June 18.
The inspection formed part of CMC’s routine food safety monitoring drive across Cyberabad. Officials assessed hygiene standards, food handling practices and compliance with food safety regulations at the establishment.
Inspectors found that the restaurant possessed a valid FSSAI licence and displayed it prominently. However, the inspection team detected multiple deficiencies across operational and food preparation areas.

Meanwhile, officials observed water accumulation near the RO dispenser, creating a potential safety hazard. They also found that the establishment had not tested the water used for cooking and drinking.
Further, inspectors noticed that the staff toilet door remained open near operational areas. They also reported poor kitchen hygiene, including an unclean ceiling and inadequate lighting.
The inspection team identified broken flooring and damaged infrastructure in the wash area. Officials also found open drains and accumulated food waste within the premises.
In addition, prepared food items lacked proper labels and date markings. Inspectors observed worn-out chopping boards and iron knives in use during food preparation.
Officials also found that the management did not maintain medical fitness records for food handlers.
Following the inspection, CMC issued a show cause notice to the establishment for serious food safety and hygiene violations. Officials instructed the food business operator to suspend kitchen operations until completing thorough cleaning and corrective measures.
The corporation also directed the management to comply immediately with food safety norms and rectify all deficiencies. The establishment scored 38 out of 96 in the hygiene assessment, translating to 40 per cent.
CMC said it will continue conducting regular inspections across Cyberabad to strengthen food safety standards and safeguard public health.
