Hyderabad: Police placed several BRS leaders under house arrest on Thursday during Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s Gadwal visit, prompting criticism from the opposition party.
Among those placed under house arrest were Gadwal constituency BRS in-charge Basu Hanumanthu Naidu and several other party leaders.
Reacting to the police action, Hanumanthu Naidu questioned the need for restrictions and surveillance during the Chief Minister’s visit.
Gadwal visit sparks criticism from BRS
The BRS leader alleged that the government was imposing unnecessary curbs on opposition leaders despite claiming to uphold democratic governance.
He questioned what he described as increasing restrictions on political activities. He also accused the government of displaying insecurity after only a few years in office.
Hanumanthu Naidu said BRS leaders only wanted to raise public concerns regarding pending projects in the constituency.
He alleged that the Chief Minister, ministers, MPs and MLAs were visiting the region without addressing key local issues.
The BRS leader also claimed that there was little visible public enthusiasm surrounding the Gadwal visit.
Meanwhile, he criticised the police for detaining several senior party leaders across the constituency.
Hanumanthu Naidu referred to the detention of senior leaders Nagar Doddi Venkat Ramulu, Kuruvapallya and former municipal chairman B.S. Keshav.
He strongly condemned the police action and demanded that authorities refrain from targeting opposition leaders.
