Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) demanded HYDRAA abolition after the Telangana High Court directed the State government to remove HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath. The party alleged that the government used the agency under Government Order 99. It claimed the agency targeted vulnerable citizens instead of enforcing town planning laws uniformly.
Addressing a press conference at Telangana Bhavan on Monday, BRS general secretary R.S. Praveen Kumar described the High Court’s directions as a setback for Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. He said replacing the Commissioner would not address what he called a flawed policy. Instead, he urged the government to dissolve the Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA).
According to Praveen Kumar, the 63 contempt cases against the Commissioner reflected repeated violations of court orders. He alleged that the agency committed unlawful trespass and selectively targeted poor and underprivileged citizens. He maintained that only a complete policy change could restore public confidence.
HYDRAA abolition linked to GO 99 criticism
Praveen Kumar said the High Court’s observations showed that the State government had failed to uphold the rule of law. He alleged that the government carried out demolitions in Lagacherla, Velugumatla, Sunnam Cheruvu, Bahadurguda and Lothukunta. Meanwhile, he claimed that ruling party leaders encroached on land.
The BRS leader also alleged that authorities transferred rights over nearly 22,000 acres through the Bhu Bharati portal. He claimed the transfers took place without the signatures of MROs and RDOs. He also alleged that the government used HYDRAA as a cover for those transfers.
Urging bureaucrats to follow the Constitution, Praveen Kumar asked officials to comply with court orders and obey the law. He reiterated that the BRS would repeal GO 99, pursue HYDRAA abolition and review every action taken by the agency if it returned to power.
