Hyderabad: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) renewed its demand for HYDRAA abolition after the Telangana High Court directed the State government to remove HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath. According to the party, the court’s observations vindicated its long-standing criticism of the agency.
Addressing the media on Monday, BJP State Chief Spokesperson and Media In-charge N.V. Subash said the High Court intervened after citizens complained of arbitrary action by HYDRAA. He further claimed the court’s observations validated concerns repeatedly raised by the BJP and people affected by the agency’s functioning.
Subash alleged that HYDRAA had become a tool for selective enforcement. He accused the agency of carrying out arbitrary demolitions while influential encroachers escaped action. However, he said the BJP supported the protection of lakes, water bodies and public land. At the same time, he opposed the misuse of authority in the name of environmental protection.
## HYDRAA abolition demand targets agency’s functioning
Meanwhile, the BJP leader criticised the State government over the frequent transfer of senior bureaucrats. He alleged that the repeated transfers weakened governance and compromised administrative neutrality.
Furthermore, Subash said replacing the HYDRAA Commissioner alone would not restore public confidence. He urged the government to review the agency’s functioning and determine whether it had lost its credibility. He also said the law must apply equally to every citizen, regardless of wealth, influence or political affiliation.
Finally, the BJP leader reiterated the party’s demand for HYDRAA abolition. He urged the State government to dismantle the agency instead of limiting its response to a change in leadership.
