Hyderabad: Telangana BJP president Ramchander Rao welcomed the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) counter-affidavit in the Supreme Court. He said the ECI affidavit had exposed what he called false allegations by Congress. Speaking to the media in Hyderabad, he accused Congress and its allies of trying to mislead the country for political gain.
Rao urged Congress to accept responsibility in light of the affidavit submitted to the country’s highest court. He also demanded a public apology to the people for what he described as repeated false claims.
The BJP leader said the ECI had told the Supreme Court that its members had no disagreements. He accused Congress of misleading the public by alleging internal differences within the constitutional body.
ECI affidavit addresses voter registration procedures
Rao said the ECI had submitted detailed information to the Supreme Court on additions to and deletions from electoral rolls. The affidavit also covered Form 6 and the procedures for registering voters.
He said the Commission had clarified that officials followed statutory rules during voter enrolment. Rao argued that the ECI affidavit had addressed allegations against the election authority.
He accused Congress and its allies of trying to damage the ECI’s reputation for political purposes. He maintained that Congress should acknowledge the court submission and explain its earlier claims to the public.
