Hyderabad: Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy directed officials to prepare a time-bound action plan for Palamuru irrigation projects and ensure speedy completion of major schemes in the erstwhile Mahabubnagar district.
Chairing a high-level review meeting on Monday, the minister asked senior irrigation officials to implement decisions taken during the recent two-day irrigation tour of Palamuru and adhere to all deadlines fixed during the Chief Minister’s project inspections.
Uttam Kumar Reddy said the timelines were non-negotiable. He instructed officials to resolve issues related to land acquisition, rehabilitation, resettlement, power supply and contractor performance in mission mode.
The minister said the government had entered a phase of accelerated execution and remained committed to completing long-pending irrigation projects that would benefit lakhs of farmers.
Palamuru irrigation projects enter accelerated phase
Uttam Kumar Reddy directed Chief Engineers to submit completion schedules for every major project component.
He also instructed District Collectors to expedite land acquisition through consensus and consent awards wherever possible. Additionally, officials must ensure timely delivery of rehabilitation packages to displaced families.
Reviewing the Mahatma Gandhi Kalwakurthy Lift Irrigation Scheme, the minister directed officials to complete repairs and rehabilitation of pumping stations by March 2027.
He also instructed engineers to complete canal works under the Narlapur Reservoir and finish the entire project, including the canal distribution network, by June 2027.
Palamuru irrigation projects focus on key schemes
Reviewing the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Scheme, Uttam Kumar Reddy directed officials to complete rehabilitation measures for families displaced by the Narlapur, Yedula and Uddandapur reservoirs at the earliest.
He instructed engineers to complete the main trunk infrastructure up to Karivena Reservoir by December 2026. Furthermore, officials must ensure immediate power connectivity to the Narlapur, Yedula and Vattem pump houses.
The minister also asked officials to study solar power generation opportunities at reservoirs to reduce future energy costs.
For the Makthal-Narayanpet-Kodangal Lift Irrigation Scheme, Uttam Kumar Reddy directed authorities to begin acquisition proceedings for nearly 2,200 acres by July 2026.
He also instructed officials to complete land acquisition and rehabilitation processes for nearly 4,200 acres already under requisition and speed up Phase-I works.
The minister further directed officials to expedite acquisition of 534 acres needed to create irrigation potential for an additional 58,000 acres under the Jawahar Nettampadu Lift Irrigation Scheme.
He also reviewed proposals to enhance the storage capacity of Gudemdoddi Reservoir to 15 TMC and ordered officials to examine the feasibility of solar power projects near pumping stations.
