Ponnam orders crackdown on transport rule violations

Hyderabad: Telangana Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar directed officials to intensify action against Transport rule violations and strengthen enforcement activities across the state.

Chairing a review meeting with Transport Department officials at the Secretariat on Monday, the minister instructed authorities to conduct extensive inspections and take stringent action against vehicles that violate regulations.

He directed officials to focus on overloaded vehicles, vehicles with unpaid quarterly taxes and those operating without valid fitness certificates.

The minister also authorised officials to seize vehicles wherever necessary if they are found violating transport rules.

Transport rule violations under intensified inspections

Ponnam Prabhakar said the government remains committed to strengthening enforcement mechanisms following the abolition of check posts.

He instructed officials to utilise available manpower more effectively and expand inspection drives across Telangana.

As part of the initiative, the department will deploy 10 special enforcement teams across the erstwhile districts. Additionally, two state-level special squads will conduct intensified inspections in different regions.

The minister said these teams would help improve compliance and identify vehicles operating in violation of transport regulations.

Transport rule violations linked to student safety concerns

Ponnam Prabhakar placed special emphasis on student safety during the review meeting.

He directed officials to ensure that school buses and mini-vans transporting students possess valid fitness certificates.

The minister instructed enforcement teams to seize vehicles carrying students beyond their permitted capacity. Furthermore, officials must initiate strict action against educational institutions that operate school vehicles without valid fitness certification.

He said the government would not compromise on student safety and directed officials to maintain continuous monitoring of school transport services across the state.
