Telangana, Korea discuss expanding tourism and cultural cooperation

Hyderabad: Telangana and the Republic of Korea on Monday discussed expanding Telangana Korea tourism cooperation. The talks focused on cultural exchanges, tourism promotion and a proposed Telangana–Korea Cultural Festival in Hyderabad on October 25, 2026.

Tourism, Culture and Excise Minister Jupally Krishna Rao held discussions with a delegation led by Hwang Ilyong, Director of the Korean Cultural Centre India (KCCI). Hwang also serves as Counsellor (Culture and Press) at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea. The meeting focused on tourism, culture and heritage.

The minister welcomed the proposal for the Telangana–Korea Cultural Festival. He said the event would showcase cultural heritage, music, dance, cuisine and performing arts. Moreover, he said it would strengthen people-to-people ties and promote tourism.

Jupally Krishna Rao said Korean culture had become increasingly popular among Indian youth. In particular, Korean dramas and entertainment content had attracted large audiences on OTT platforms. As a result, he said the trend created new opportunities for tourism promotion, cultural exchange and creative collaboration.

Further, the minister reaffirmed the Telangana government’s commitment to expanding cooperation with the Republic of Korea. He said both sides discussed tourism, culture, heritage conservation and creative industries. In addition, they explored artist exchange programmes and other initiatives to strengthen bilateral relations.

Meanwhile, Kim Kanghun, Head of Administration at the Korean Cultural Centre India, attended the meeting. Im Hwije, Head of Public Relations at KCCI, also participated. Suresh Chukkapalli, Honorary Consul General of the Republic of Korea for Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, was also present.
