Hyderabad: The Telangana government on Thursday urged steel and cement manufacturers to partner in the Indiramma housing scheme by ensuring an affordable and uninterrupted supply of construction materials for the flagship programme.
Revenue and Housing Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy and IT and Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu held a high-level review meeting with industry representatives at the Secretariat. During the meeting, they discussed logistics, price stability and a dedicated supply chain to prevent delays in housing construction.
The Ministers said the Indiramma housing scheme was designed to provide poor families with dignified housing, social security and financial support. Moreover, they described the programme as a long-term social welfare initiative rather than a conventional housing project.
Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said the government approved 4.50 lakh houses in the first phase across Telangana, excluding Hyderabad. He added that slab work had already been completed for about 85 per cent of the sanctioned houses, while construction continued on the remaining units.
Indiramma housing scheme to expand in second phase
The Minister said the government planned to sanction another 2.5 lakh houses in the second phase. Accordingly, each Assembly constituency will receive 2,000 houses, while the CURE jurisdiction has been assigned a target of one lakh houses.
He added that tribal constituencies would receive an additional 1,000 to 1,500 houses, with the allocation process currently underway. Furthermore, he said the government would approve more houses in subsequent phases.
Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy said Telangana was providing a full subsidy of ₹5 lakh for each house under the scheme. He also claimed that no other State matched Telangana’s level of commitment to subsidised housing construction.
