Hyderabad: Shailesh Vagerwal on Thursday assumed charge as the Chairman and Managing Director of Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL), bringing nearly three decades of experience in the defence manufacturing sector.
An officer of the Indian Ordnance Factories Service (IOFS), Vagerwal holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from MBM Engineering College, Jodhpur. In addition, he earned an M.Sc. in Explosive Ordnance Engineering from Cranfield University, United Kingdom.
During his career, Vagerwal served in key positions at Ordnance Factory Dum Dum, Ordnance Factory Itarsi, Ordnance Factory Khamaria and Munitions India Limited. Moreover, he gained expertise in ammunition and explosives manufacturing, strategic planning, quality assurance, procurement, project management, research and development, exports, business development and human resource management.

Before assuming charge at BDL, Vagerwal served as Chief General Manager of Ordnance Factory Khamaria in Jabalpur, a unit of Munitions India Limited. He now takes charge of the defence public sector undertaking after nearly 30 years of experience across multiple areas of defence production and management.
