JP Nadda says AIIMS Bibinagar will become South India’s premier medical hub

Hyderabad: Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda on Thursday said AIIMS Bibinagar is on track to become South India’s premier medical hub, with the remaining infrastructure scheduled for completion by December 2026.

Reviewing the institute’s progress, Nadda said AIIMS Bibinagar became operational within four years after receiving approval in June 2022 with an outlay of ₹1,110 crore. Moreover, he said the institute now has 132 faculty members, nine specialties, emergency services, CT and MRI facilities, and an average daily outpatient footfall of 1,800 patients.

The Union Minister said the institute has also treated more than 1.56 lakh patients through telemedicine. He added that the Centre remains committed to strengthening healthcare infrastructure across the country.

Nadda said the Narendra Modi government established 19 new AIIMS after 2014, increasing the total planned institutions to 23, of which 18 are operational. Furthermore, he said the government expanded the healthcare network through 1.85 lakh Ayushman Arogya Mandirs and increased the number of medical colleges from 370 to 820.

AIIMS Bibinagar strengthens healthcare and research

The Union Minister said the institute’s faculty produced 1,156 research publications and organised 547 medical camps that benefited more than 66,000 people in adopted villages. He also praised AIIMS Bibinagar for establishing the country’s first Community Radio Station at an AIIMS campus.

Nadda said premier medical institutions require time to achieve full academic and research excellence. However, he expressed confidence that AIIMS Bibinagar would emerge as a centre of excellence in medical education, patient care and research.
