Hyderabad: The Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau caught a Revenue Inspector and a Grama Palana Officer for allegedly demanding and accepting a ₹14,000 bribe to facilitate a land registration.
The Telangana ACB bribery case involved Revenue Inspector Vemuganti Purnachander Rao of Alair mandal in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district. The ACB also named Shaik Ahmed, Grama Palana Officer of Kolanupaka village in Alair mandal, as the second accused officer.
According to an ACB press note issued on August 24, officials of its Nalgonda Range caught the accused on July 24. The agency alleged that Purnachander Rao demanded and accepted ₹14,000 from the complainant through Ahmed.
Telangana ACB bribery linked to land registration
The ACB said the Revenue Inspector sought the money for providing an official favour to the complainant. According to the agency, the official favour involved issuing a report to the Tahsildar. The report was intended to facilitate registration of land sold by the complainant’s sister.
ACB officials recovered the ₹14,000 bribe amount from Ahmed’s possession, the press note said. The agency alleged that both accused officials had performed their duties improperly and dishonestly to obtain an undue advantage.
The ACB subsequently initiated steps to produce both accused before the First Additional Special Judge for SPE and ACB cases at Nampally. Officials sought judicial remand for the two accused.
Telangana ACB bribery case under investigation
The ACB said it continued to investigate the case. However, it withheld the complainant’s details for security reasons. The agency also appealed to citizens to report demands for bribes by public servants.
People could contact the ACB through its toll-free number, 1064, when public officials demanded bribes, the agency said. The ACB stated that it would take action according to law on complaints involving demands for illegal gratification.
It also assured complainants and victims that their names and details would remain confidential.
