Telangana High Court fines HYDRAA Commissioner Ranganath Rs 50,000

Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court imposed a Rs 50,000 penalty on HYDRAA Commissioner Ranganath for failing to file a counter affidavit within the stipulated time in a case before the court.

The court expressed displeasure over the delay and took a serious view of the conduct of the official.

A.V. Ranganath has recently been in the spotlight for HYDRAA’s drives to protect water bodies and remove illegal constructions across Hyderabad.

However, the latest High Court order has triggered discussions in administrative and political circles.

HYDRAA Commissioner Ranganath pulled up over delay

The court noted that despite its directions, the counter affidavit was not filed within the prescribed timeframe.

It also objected to repeated requests for additional time.

The High Court observed that such delays undermine compliance with judicial directions.

Further, the court said officials holding responsible positions must respond promptly to legal proceedings.

Consequently, it imposed a cost of Rs 50,000 on the commissioner.

The court directed Ranganath to deposit the amount in the Chief Justice Relief Fund without delay.

Meanwhile, the order has drawn attention among bureaucratic circles, with many viewing it as a strong message on accountability and adherence to court timelines.

The case has also renewed discussion on the responsibility of government departments in responding to judicial proceedings.
