Tammidikunta and Sunnam Cheruvu works to be completed by third week of August

Hyderabad: HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath directed officials to complete the restoration and development works at Tammidikunta and Sunnam Cheruvu in Madhapur’s IT corridor by the third week of August. He instructed them to develop inlets so rainwater could flow directly into the lakes.

The Commissioner inspected the ongoing works at both lakes on Wednesday. He reviewed the construction of walkways and the installation of the main gates. He said the restored lakes should demonstrate the benefits of flood mitigation, groundwater recharge and ecological conservation.

Ranganath directed officials to construct strong bunds around both lakes. He also asked them to build wide walkways. Parks, open gyms and children’s play areas should also be developed, he said.

Sunnam Cheruvu had earlier shrunk to 16.4 acres because of encroachments. HYDRAA removed the encroachments and restored it to 30.5 acres. Tammidikunta had similarly shrunk to 16.2 acres. It has now been expanded to 29.3 acres under the restoration project.

The Commissioner instructed officials to improve the inlets for smooth rainwater inflow. He also asked them to strengthen the outlets to safely discharge excess water after the lakes filled. He directed officials to ensure there was no flood risk in the surrounding areas.

Meanwhile, Ranganath asked officials to speed up the construction of sewage treatment plants. The plants will prevent sewage from entering the lakes. He also directed them to improve the surroundings and create a pleasant environment for visitors. Both Tammidikunta and Sunnam Cheruvu should be ready for inauguration by the third week of August, he said.

Additional Commissioner (Asset Protection) D. Anand Kumar, ACP Tirumal, Vimos Technocrats owner Younus, who is supervising the lake restoration works, and other officials accompanied the Commissioner during the inspection.
