Drought-hit mandals: Kavitha demands immediate declaration

Hyderabad: Telangana Rakshana Sena president K. Kavitha demanded the immediate declaration of drought-hit mandals across the State on Sunday.

Kavitha said groundwater levels across Telangana had fallen by 20 feet. She made the demand while addressing reporters at the TRS party office in Hyderabad.

According to Kavitha, the fall in groundwater levels has worsened conditions across the State. She also criticised Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy over the government’s response to the situation.

Kavitha said the administration had failed to address the worsening crisis despite the Chief Minister performing a Varuna Yagam for rainfall. She also alleged that rural areas were experiencing severe power shortages.

The TRS president claimed that several rural areas were receiving no more than six hours of electricity each day. She urged the government to ensure uninterrupted power supply to farmers immediately.

Kavitha also challenged Revanth Reddy to accompany her to his native village of Kondareddypalli. She said she would demonstrate the extent of the alleged power cuts during the visit.

Drought-hit mandals and irrigation projects raised

Meanwhile, Kavitha questioned why major irrigation projects along the Krishna and Godavari rivers remained unfilled. She raised the issue despite what she described as abundant water flow in both rivers.

The TRS president sought immediate government action on the situation facing farmers. Her demands included declaring drought-hit mandals and ensuring continuous electricity supply to agricultural consumers.

Kavitha’s remarks focused on groundwater depletion, rural power shortages and the status of major irrigation projects. She called on the State government to respond immediately to the issues she raised.
