Form 7 misuse: Shabbir Ali seeks FIRs over voter deletions

Hyderabad: Telangana Government Advisor Mohammed Ali Shabbir urged Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to order FIRs over alleged Form 7 misuse during the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.

In a letter to the Chief Minister on Sunday, Shabbir Ali sought stringent action against those allegedly filing applications to delete genuine voters. He raised concerns over reports of bulk submissions, including applications made using pre-printed forms.

The applications reportedly sought voter deletions on grounds including death, change of residence or duplicate enrolment. Shabbir Ali said the alleged Form 7 misuse could affect eligible electors if authorities accepted fraudulent applications.

He also said minority voters were particularly concerned that their names could be targeted without their knowledge. Therefore, he urged the government to protect genuine voters from wrongful deletion during the revision process.

Shabbir Ali referred to a complaint submitted by the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee. The complaint concerned around 30 Form 7 applications at Polling Booth No. 210 in Musheerabad.

According to the complaint, the applications were allegedly submitted in the name of BJP booth-level agent S.V. Balachander, also known as Balu. The applications reportedly sought deletion of Congress booth-level agent Mohammad Baba Sharfuddin, his family members and another household in Chikkadapally.

Form 7 misuse complaint seeks detailed inquiry

Shabbir Ali urged the Chief Minister to order a thorough inquiry into the allegations. He sought stringent action against anyone found responsible for the alleged misuse of Form 7 applications.

Meanwhile, the Congress leader stressed the need to prevent genuine voters from being removed from electoral rolls through fraudulent applications. His demand came amid the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.

The complaint cited by Shabbir Ali specifically relates to applications filed at the Musheerabad polling booth. The allegations include bulk submissions and requests targeting multiple voters and households.

Shabbir Ali asked the State government to examine the applications and establish whether they were improperly filed. He also called for FIRs and other stringent measures against those found responsible.

The demand places the alleged Form 7 misuse within the wider issue of protecting eligible voters during the electoral roll revision. Shabbir Ali said authorities should ensure that genuine electors remain on the rolls.
