Hyderabad: BRS MLA Talasani Srinivas Yadav said the party would win the Khairatabad bypoll. He made the statement at a BRS general body meeting at the Zoroastrian Club in Secunderabad on Wednesday.
Talasani asked party workers in Sanath Nagar to focus on voter registration ahead of the upcoming elections. He said the constituency had more than 10,000 graduate voters. Workers should ensure that every eligible graduate registered as a voter, he said.
The BRS leader directed workers to spend 30 days visiting households and helping eligible voters complete registration. He also asked the party organisation to focus on the two Graduate MLC elections along with the Khairatabad bypoll.
Talasani criticised the Congress government over its election promises. He alleged that the party made promises before coming to power and later failed people from different sections.
He also criticised Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy over his remarks when people questioned the government about its promises and public issues. Talasani raised the issue of the two MLC seats that Congress had given to candidates from the open category.
Khairatabad bypoll focus shifts to voter registration
Talasani questioned whether eligible candidates from BC, SC, ST and minority communities were unavailable for the MLC positions. He also alleged that the government suspended BRS legislators because it feared their questions on public issues in the Assembly.
According to Talasani, BRS members would continue to question the government inside the Assembly. He also criticised the chief minister’s remarks during such exchanges.
The MLA referred to former minister T. Harish Rao’s role in Assembly proceedings and alleged that the government wanted to restrict him from raising issues in the House.
Party general secretary R.S. Praveen Kumar, MLC Surabhi Vani Devi and Secunderabad Lok Sabha constituency in-charge Talasani Sai Kiran Yadav attended the meeting. Former corporators, division presidents, Telangana movement activists and senior leaders also participated.
The Khairatabad Assembly seat has recently fallen vacant following the disqualification of former MLA Danam Nagender, clearing the way for a by-election.
