Hyderabad: BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao demanded immediate cancellation of the ₹3,296-crore Radial Road-2 tenders, alleging irregularities in the selection of contractors. He also sought a comprehensive investigation into the tender process and demanded public disclosure of all related documents.
In an open letter to Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Saturday, October 10, Rama Rao accused the Congress government of favouring certain contractors. He questioned why bidders who reportedly offered lower prices faced disqualification while other firms secured contracts at allegedly inflated rates.
The BRS leader demanded that the government explain the criteria used to select contractors and disclose the decisions behind individual contract awards.
KTR questions transparency in Radial Road-2 tenders
Rama Rao alleged that the authorities had disqualified certain companies on technical grounds while awarding contracts to allegedly favoured firms. He questioned whether officials had applied the technical eligibility requirements uniformly to all participating bidders.
Furthermore, he raised concerns about the speed at which officials evaluated the bids for the major infrastructure project. According to Rama Rao, the authorities processed 13 bids in approximately five working days. He questioned whether such a short period allowed adequate scrutiny.
The BRS working president sought an explanation of how officials completed the evaluation and selection process within that timeframe. The proposed Radial Road-2 project involved constructing an 81.15-km greenfield expressway connecting the Outer Ring Road at Budvel to NH-167N near Kodangal.
The government had divided the ₹3,296-crore project into three packages. Rama Rao questioned the award of these packages at rates allegedly exceeding the estimated project costs. He also demanded clarification on why the authorities rejected bidders who had reportedly submitted lower financial quotations.
The BRS leader insisted that the government release all documents concerning the Radial Road-2 tenders for public scrutiny. Additionally, he demanded a comprehensive inquiry into the alleged irregularities and accountability for decisions taken during the tender process.
He maintained that transparency in contract awards was essential to protect public funds. Rama Rao stressed that safeguarding Telangana’s financial interests must remain the government’s foremost priority.
