Hyderabad: Khairatabad Ex-MLA Danam Nagender on Sunday called a visit by Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders to the Medigadda barrage a “joy trip”. He accused the main opposition party of politicising environmental crises like El Niño for political mileage.
Speaking to the media here, Nagender said the world was grappling with the impact of El Niño. Meanwhile, BRS leaders had visited the barrage, he said. He alleged that the BRS was indulging in politics even over a crisis with serious implications.
Nagender also defended the Congress party’s record on Hyderabad’s chronic drinking water needs. According to him, previous Congress administrations successfully brought 10 TMC of water to the city. The water came via the Godavari River and the Yellampally project, he said.
Kaleshwaram failed to supply water from Medigadda barrage: Nagender
In contrast, Nagender targeted the previous BRS government over the failed Rs 1 lakh crore Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS). He alleged the collapsed project did not supply even one TMC from the Medigadda barrage for the capital’s drinking needs.
Looking ahead, Nagender assured people that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy is executing a structured roadmap. The plan aims to secure the state capital’s long-term water supply, he said. Further, he said plans are underway to import an additional five TMC of drinking water by January 2027.
Turning to national politics, Nagender accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of retaining power through illegal deletion of voters’ names. According to him, this happened in Bihar, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh. He urged people and party supporters nationwide to join the “Chalo Delhi” mega-rally at Ramlila Maidan on November 1. Rahul Gandhi has called the rally to protest electoral malpractices.
