Hyderabad: The DRI cocaine seizure at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport involved cocaine valued at an estimated ₹24 crore. Directorate of Revenue Intelligence officials intercepted the suspected contraband after receiving specific information about its movement.
The operation followed the arrival of a passenger from Doha at Shamshabad airport. DRI officials noticed his movements and grew suspicious. They alerted Central Industrial Security Force personnel and detained the passenger.
A detailed search of his luggage followed. During the inspection, officials found unusual items inside the bags. The passenger had allegedly concealed the cocaine in chocolate form to prevent suspicion during his journey.
Officials examined the luggage thoroughly before identifying the suspected narcotic substance. The recovery formed the main part of the DRI cocaine seizure at the Hyderabad airport.
DRI cocaine seizure leads to probe into alleged international network
The seized cocaine had an estimated international market value of about ₹24 crore, according to the officials’ assessment. The passenger allegedly used chocolate-shaped packaging to conceal the drug inside his luggage.
Following the recovery, DRI officials took the passenger into custody. They began questioning him about the source of the cocaine and its transportation.
Investigators are also examining whether an international drug syndicate operates behind the consignment. The probe aims to establish where the cocaine came from and whether other people were involved in moving it.
