Hyderabad: Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials seized around one and a half kilograms of foreign gold from a passenger at Shamshabad airport on Tuesday, October 6. The passenger, who arrived in Hyderabad on a flight from Tiruchi in Tamil Nadu, was found carrying 1,481 grams of gold being smuggled illegally from abroad.
Officials said the seized gold is valued at about Rs 2.25 crore. Acting on specific information about the gold smuggling, they intercepted the passenger and took him into custody.
Gold hidden in special pouch in innerwear at Shamshabad airport
DRI officials found that the passenger was smuggling the gold by concealing it in a special pouch inside his innerwear. They said the gold had been cut into six pieces, wrapped in carbon paper and covered with blue tape before being hidden in his innerwear.
The accused was arrested and a case was registered under the Customs Act, 1962. Officials have taken up an investigation into the case.
