Hyderabad: Subway hygiene violations came to light during an inspection conducted by Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) food safety teams at the restaurant’s Kondapur outlet, where officials detected improper storage of vegetables, poor sanitation and missing compliance records.
CMC food safety teams inspected the Rajarajeshwar Nagar branch as part of the corporation’s ongoing monitoring drive across Cyberabad.
Officials also identified several positive practices during the visit. Food handlers wore gloves and aprons and maintained personal hygiene standards.
Inspectors found the restaurant’s walls, flooring and ceilings in satisfactory condition.
In addition, the team observed separate storage arrangements for vegetarian and non-vegetarian food items and found no use of synthetic food colours.
However, officials found that staff were not properly checking incoming raw vegetables during procurement.
The team also discovered rotten lettuce stored in a chiller.
Furthermore, cut vegetables, including onions, tomatoes and lettuce, lacked proper labels. Some items had exceeded their declared use-by dates.
Subway hygiene violations prompt corrective action
Inspectors observed food waste on the floor of the preparation area.
They also noticed flies in the food preparation section.
Moreover, sink and washing areas lacked proper maintenance.
Food handlers failed to produce medical fitness certificates, food testing reports and water analysis reports during the inspection.
Officials also found that food handlers had limited awareness of safe food handling practices.
CMC teams immediately discarded rotten and unlabelled vegetables found on the premises.
Authorities said the Subway hygiene violations required immediate corrective measures and directed the restaurant management to address the deficiencies.
Officials will issue an improvement notice to the establishment.
The restaurant scored 58 out of 96 marks in the hygiene assessment, achieving a hygiene percentage of 60 per cent.
According to CMC guidelines, establishments scoring between 50 and 90 per cent receive an improvement notice.
CMC said it will continue regular inspections of restaurants, kitchens and food establishments to strengthen hygiene standards and safeguard public health across Cyberabad.
