Hyderabad: Family members of the victims in the Shabad murders staged a road blockade on Saturday, alleging police negligence in handling an earlier POCSO case against the accused. They demanded ₹1 crore in ex gratia for the bereaved family.
The protest followed the killing of six people in Daivalaguda village of Shabad mandal in Ranga Reddy district. Meanwhile, relatives blocked the Shabad–Shadnagar main road for more than three hours, disrupting traffic.
Shabad murders spark protest over police action
The road blockade triggered a traffic jam stretching nearly 12 kilometres. Vehicles remained stranded from Shabad to Sardar Nagar and Ellikatta near Shadnagar, and on the other side up to Nagarguda. Police deployed additional personnel to bring the situation under control.
The victims’ relatives alleged that police negligence in the earlier POCSO case had led to the crime. Further, they claimed the incident could have been prevented if officers had acted promptly on previous complaints against the accused.
The protesters also questioned why police had failed to trace accused Raj Kumar’s mobile phone signal. Additionally, they said another girl in the victims’ family was a person with disabilities and urged the state government to sanction ₹1 crore as ex gratia for the family.
Police continued efforts to restore normalcy and clear the traffic while the investigation into the Shabad murders remained underway.
