RS Praveen blames police for Dalit youth’s murder, seeks ₹1 crore relief

Hyderabad: BRS leader RS Praveen Kumar on Monday held the Congress government and police responsible for the murder of Dalit youth Erra Rajasekhar. He alleged the crime was premeditated and claimed it occurred with the silent backing of law enforcement.

After visiting the victim’s family, Praveen Kumar said attacks on Dalits had increased since the Congress took power. He directly blamed Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, who also serves as Home Minister, for the declining safety of marginalised communities.

Praveen demanded that police officers involved face charges under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. He also urged the formation of a dedicated task force, similar to Greyhounds, to tackle caste violence. Additionally, he called for district-level police stations focused on atrocity cases.

The BRS leader pressed for ₹1 crore ex-gratia to the victim’s family. He demanded a double-bedroom house and a government job for Rajasekhar’s widow. Furthermore, he criticised Congress leaders for avoiding the victim’s residence and questioned their silence on the killing.

Praveen Kumar compared the current case with earlier incidents under the previous government. He insisted that negligent officers must be dismissed immediately to rebuild public trust.

Several BRS leaders and activists joined the protest held near the victim’s home.
