Praveen Kumar slams SIT notice, alleges political vendetta by Congress govt

Hyderabad: BRS leader and former IPS officer R.S. Praveen Kumar on Saturday criticised the SIT for serving him a notice late at night. He alleged that the action was politically motivated and aimed at silencing opposition voices. He said the move followed closely on the heels of his public statements in defence of BRS leaders K.T. Rama Rao and T. Harish Rao.

Speaking at a press conference, Praveen Kumar said the SIT served the notice at his residence near midnight. This happened less than 12 hours after he condemned the alleged harassment of BRS leaders in the phone-tapping case. The notice reportedly warned him of civil and criminal consequences. This warning would apply if he failed to respond with evidence within two days.

Praveen Kumar slams SIT notice, questions neutrality of probe

He maintained that he had not used abusive language or made personal attacks. “Raising my voice against injustice is my constitutional right. I will not be intimidated by police threats,” he stated.

Praveen Kumar also questioned why the SIT probe was necessary. This question arose if, as media reports claimed, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy had described phone tapping as a “common occurrence.” He rejected the SIT’s allegation that he demanded a separate probe into SIT chief V.C. Sajjanar. Additionally, he clarified that a SIT had already been formed in Andhra Pradesh in 2015. The 2015 SIT aimed to investigate alleged phone tapping in the cash-for-vote case involving Revanth Reddy.

He argued that Sajjanar’s past role in the Telangana Intelligence Department during that period made it “morally inappropriate” for him to lead the current SIT. “As an opposition leader, it is my duty to expose issues being hidden from the public,” he said. He noted that he had already called for SIT investigations into alleged scams under the current government.

Praveen Kumar denied any attempt to malign individuals and accused the Congress government of waging a sustained campaign against BRS leaders. “For two years, KTR and Harish Rao have faced character attacks under a vindictive regime,” he alleged.

He also raised concerns about selective police action, noting the lack of response to complaints against Congress leaders and the absence of any notice to Revanth Reddy in connection with phone-tapping allegations. Moreover, he further criticised media leaks, journalist arrests, and ongoing public commentary by Congress figures on what should be a confidential probe.
