Hyderabad: The Telangana government had taken up a Rs 4.5 crore Sarvaipet tourism project to showcase the history of Sardar Sarvai Papanna Goud, Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said.
He said the government would develop Sarvaipet village across sectors and complete repairs to the historic fort. The village, in Saidapur mandal of Husnabad constituency in Karimnagar district, had strong links to Papanna’s history.
Ponnam said the government had recognised the historical importance of Sarvaipet and initiated the tourism development project. He said the initiative would bring wider recognition to the legacy of the Bahujan resistance leader.
The minister also announced that Chief Minister Revanth Reddy would inaugurate the tourism project in the village soon. Ponnam made the announcement while participating in the “Palle Palleku Ponnam Anna – Palle Pallelo Praja Palana” programme at Sarvaipet.
During the programme, the minister reviewed welfare schemes being implemented in the village. He also examined the progress of various development works. Moreover, Ponnam interacted directly with residents and received representations about problems they faced in the village.
Sarvaipet tourism project includes fort restoration
Ponnam said the government would further develop the village because of its association with Sardar Sarvai Papanna Goud. He also assured residents that repairs to the fort would be completed.
The Sarvaipet tourism project was being developed at a cost of Rs 4.5 crore, according to the minister. He said the project would help present Papanna Goud’s history to a wider audience.
During his village visit, Ponnam also unveiled a newly installed statue of Dr B.R. Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution and Bharat Ratna recipient. The minister paid tributes to Ambedkar after unveiling the statue.
Subsequently, Ponnam inaugurated a veterinary camp organised in the village. As part of the programme, medicines were administered to cattle to prevent reproductive diseases. The minister also inaugurated new Indiramma houses belonging to Ervala Jyothi during the visit.
The programme brought together elected representatives, officials, farmers and representatives of women’s groups. Local leaders also participated in the village-level activities. Sarpanch Polu Swaroopa Praveen Kumar and Market Committee Chairman Dontha Sudhakar attended the programme.
Mandal president Chada Kondal Reddy and Block Congress president Mittapalli Kishtaiah also took part. District, divisional and mandal-level officials were present. Farmers and representatives of women’s organisations also participated in the programme.
Ponnam reiterated that the government would develop Sarvaipet in all sectors. He said the tourism initiative would particularly highlight the village’s historical association with Sardar Sarvai Papanna Goud.
