Hyderabad: A viral video showing an RTC driver attack in Vellampally of Illanthakunta mandal stirred public anger across Telangana. A man assaulted an RTC driver after the driver refused to move aside for his car. Moreover, the clip spread rapidly online, prompting Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar to order immediate action. Police acted on his directions, detained the accused and filed several sections against him.
Local residents expressed shock at the assault and urged officials to safeguard frontline workers. The minister reviewed the situation and asked the police to ensure strict enforcement. Additionally, RTC staff sought stronger protection for employees performing essential services.
RTC driver attack triggers firm warning from CP Sajjanar
The RTC driver attack drew a sharp reaction from Hyderabad Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar. He condemned the assault and stated that he would not allow attacks, threats or interference against government employees performing their duties. Furthermore, he stressed that police officers, teachers, RTC staff and other public servants deserve complete protection while on duty.
Sajjanar instructed officers to register criminal cases without delay whenever anyone targets government staff. He told them to treat such offences as serious violations, not minor arguments. His firm message highlighted the administration’s commitment to protecting public servants from intimidation.
RTC driver attack falls under serious BNS provisions
The RTC driver attack also prompted Sajjanar to explain the legal consequences under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. He said assaults on government employees fall under Sections 221, 132 and 121(1), all of which carry severe penalties. Additionally, he warned that the accused risk losing major opportunities once a case enters the system. Passport approvals, government job eligibility and future prospects could all collapse because of such offences.
He urged citizens to control their anger and avoid reckless actions that create lifelong damage. Moreover, he appealed to the public to respect workers who serve the community. Officials planned continued enforcement to prevent similar incidents and maintain safety for government employees across the state.
