RPF seizes cash and drugs under special operations

Hyderabad: RPF special operations conducted by the South Central Railway led to the seizure of unaccounted cash worth Rs 1.22 crore and narcotics valued at Rs 41.5 lakh during raids on May 25 and 26.

Railway Protection Force personnel carried out the drives under Operations Satark and Narcos across the Hyderabad division.

Under Operation Satark, RPF officials seized Rs 1,22,70,000 from a passenger travelling in the Devagiri Express on May 26.

The Crime Prevention and Detection Squad noticed suspicious behaviour and unusual body language during routine surveillance. Subsequently, officials checked the passenger and recovered two bags containing cash.

Preliminary inquiry revealed that the passenger allegedly transported the money from Mumbai’s Zaveri Bazaar to Secunderabad.

RPF officials handed over the passenger and seized cash to the Government Railway Police for further investigation. Authorities also informed the Income Tax Department and Intelligence Bureau.

Officials stated that the RPF Cyber Cell and the Interoperable Criminal Justice System were conducting further digital verification.

RPF special operations bust narcotics racket

Under Operation Narcos, RPF Hyderabad Division busted an inter-state narcotics racket and seized 83 kilograms of marijuana from the Nagavali Express.

Officials valued the seized contraband at Rs 41.5 lakh.

The operation began after the CPDS team noticed another passenger behaving nervously during surveillance checks. On inspection, RPF personnel recovered 48 kilograms of marijuana worth Rs 24 lakh.

During interrogation, officials suspected the involvement of a larger trafficking network operating across Maharashtra, Odisha and Telangana.

Based on intelligence inputs, RPF launched another operation at Charlapalli after data analysis indicated that an accomplice had deboarded with part of the narcotics consignment.

Using CCTV analytics, movement tracking and coordinated surveillance, RPF teams apprehended three more accused, including a woman.

Senior DSC Hyderabad Debashmita C Banerjee said RPF intensified efforts against organised crime through behavioural analytics, intelligence mapping and technology-driven policing.

South Central Railway General Manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava praised the RPF personnel for dismantling the narcotics network and protecting railway passengers.
