RPF Cyber Cell recovers lost mobiles under Operation Amanat

Hyderabad: The RPF Cyber Cell of South Central Railway traced 34 mobile phones and recovered 22 devices in August under its ongoing drive, ‘Operation Amanat.’

Soon after gaining access to the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal on April 3, 2025, the Railway Protection Force ramped up digital tracking. It began tracing phones using IMEI-based technology. Only cases reported through the Rail Madad platform and not backed by an FIR were eligible.

The CEIR portal, created by the Department of Telecommunications, helps block and trace lost or stolen phones. Currently, the RPF Cyber Cell manages all such recoveries across six SCR divisions Secunderabad, Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Guntakal, Guntur, and Nanded.

During August, the RPF received 125 complaints. It blocked 96 phones through CEIR. It traced 34 devices. Nine were returned to their owners, while 13 remain with RPF posts, ready for handover.

In each case, RPF teams directly contacted passengers and conducted structured follow-ups. This consistent engagement reflects the force’s tech-led and passenger-focused approach.

Sanjay Kumar Srivastava, General Manager of South Central Railway, acknowledged the Cell’s growing role. “The Cyber Cell has become a key force in restoring stolen or misplaced property through inter-agency collaboration and timely intervention,” he said.
