Hyderabad: The Telangana School Education Department is actively considering revisions to the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) syllabus. This move comes in response to increasing demands from in-service teachers for a more relevant and subject-focused structure.
Teachers demand alignment with teaching subjects
Many teachers, particularly those with over 20 years of experience in a single subject, argue that the existing syllabus does not reflect their expertise. As a result, they are forced to study unrelated material, significantly lowering their chances of qualifying.
Teacher unions have already met Director of School Education Navin Nicholas to voice their concerns. They urged the department to shift from a general syllabus to subject-wise testing. Currently, secondary school teachers and LFL headmasters must take Paper 1, which focuses on primary education content. Meanwhile, B.Ed-qualified SG teachers and school assistants are required to write Paper 2, which is divided into subject areas like Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.
Department considers subject-specific TET exams
According to department insiders, officials are now reviewing the structure to introduce subject-aligned assessments, similar to departmental exams. Teachers have pointed out that the current system gives more weight to non-specialist subjects, creating a disadvantage for subject-specific instructors.
By introducing a more tailored TET format, the department aims to address both relevance and fairness in the evaluation process ahead of the 2026 exam.
Merupu App offers free practice tests for aspirants
In parallel, the Merupu App has begun offering free daily practice tests for TET-2026 candidates. These mock exams, which started this week, will continue through December 21. Importantly, they are open to all aspirants including current teachers and recent D.Ed/B.Ed graduates with no registration or fees required.
