New Delhi: Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi has announced a march to the Supreme Court on Monday. Youth, opposition parties and civil society representatives will join the padayatra, the Congress leader said. They will submit a memorandum to the Chief Justice demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Rahul Gandhi strongly condemned an alleged attack by police and “BJP goons” on students and youth during protests in Delhi. He called the attack on young people who came to protest peacefully atrocious. He also vowed to intensify the fight against “vote chori” and the special revision of electoral rolls (SIR).
Rahul Gandhi alleged that police and BJP supporters attacked young people who had come to protest peacefully in Delhi. He said the youth joined the protest out of faith in democracy, not hatred. Such incidents do not reflect the India they want, he said.
Rahul Gandhi calls for united fight against SIR
He urged youth to set aside differences of party, caste, religion, gender and region and unite as Indians. He appealed to everyone who believes in democracy to join the padayatra. Their main demands are to prevent irregularities in voter lists and to halt the SIR process.
Rahul Gandhi said Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah cannot stop their fight. Nor can National Security Adviser Ajit Doval or RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, he added. He said they will move forward with love, brotherhood and patriotism.
He said the protests will continue to protect democracy and the Constitution. Protecting the right to vote and ensuring transparency in the electoral process are their goals, he said.
