Hyderabad: Minister Ponnam Prabhakar reviewed paddy procurement arrangements in Husnabad constituency after arrivals increased sharply at procurement centres. During a teleconference with district officials, he directed authorities to prevent inconvenience to farmers and speed up procurement operations.
The minister held the review with additional collectors from Siddipet, Karimnagar and Hanumakonda districts. RDOs, DSO officials, civil supplies officers, MROs, agriculture officials and procurement centre in-charges attended the meeting.
Ponnam Prabhakar asked officials to work in coordination and prevent inconvenience to farmers. He warned officials against negligence at procurement centres. Meanwhile, he instructed authorities to speed up procurement operations.
Officials must maintain enough gunny bags at all centres, the minister said. In addition, authorities should keep tarpaulins ready to protect paddy from evening rain. He also said the government would purchase rain-affected paddy.
Paddy procurement arrangements tightened in key centres
Ponnam Prabhakar directed five-member village committees to monitor procurement operations regularly. They must coordinate with local officials and report problems immediately. At the same time, officials should prevent disruptions at village, mandal and district levels.
The minister also instructed authorities to avoid delays at rice mills. Further, control rooms should closely monitor every procurement centre. DTC officials must appoint one MVI officer in each district to coordinate vehicle movement.
Authorities should also ensure there was no shortage of labourers, he said. Meanwhile, Husnabad market yard was receiving huge quantities of paddy daily. Therefore, the minister instructed officials to deploy additional weighing teams at the centre.
Five teams were already working at the market yard. However, the minister said additional staff may still be required because of rising arrivals.
Officials were asked to stay alert at Akkannapet, Husnabad town, Shanigaram, Koheda and Baswapur procurement centres. In Shanigaram, three to four lorries were arriving daily. Therefore, authorities should arrange extra lorries or tractors if needed.
Finally, Ponnam Prabhakar said he would review paddy procurement arrangements through daily teleconferences.
