Ponnam Prabhakar says Hyderabad to get one lakh Indiramma houses

Hyderabad: Transport and BC Welfare Minister Ponnam Prabhakar said the state government would build Hyderabad Indiramma houses near the workplaces of poor families. He said the government remained committed to constructing one lakh Indiramma houses in the city.

Ponnam Prabhakar made the announcement while distributing allotment letters for 2BHK houses at the Hyderabad District Collectorate. Also, Minority Welfare and Public Enterprises Minister Mohammed Azharuddin attended the programme. Government Whip Addanki Dayakar, MLAs Akbaruddin Owaisi and Majid Hussain, and District Collector Dr Priyanka Ala were present.

The minister said the government’s priority was to provide permanent housing to every eligible poor family. According to him, beneficiaries would receive houses near their workplaces. Further, the government would use available government land wherever necessary.

Hyderabad Indiramma houses to support poor families

Ponnam Prabhakar acknowledged the long wait faced by beneficiaries over the past decade. He expressed regret over the delay. However, he assured eligible families that welfare schemes would reach them without similar delays.

He said the government planned to build one lakh Indiramma houses across Hyderabad. Meanwhile, eligible families were receiving ration cards within 48 hours of applying. In addition, he highlighted the supply of fine rice and 200 units of free electricity for eligible households.

Ponnam Prabhakar said the government was expanding women’s self-help groups in Hyderabad. Besides, women were receiving interest-free loans and self-employment opportunities. He added that free bus travel had improved access to education, employment and essential services. Additionally, the government was filling vacancies in different departments to create jobs for youth.

He directed the District Collector to survey old government housing colonies, including VAMBAY Housing and JNNURM projects. Thereafter, officials will classify buildings as repairable, unsafe or fit for reconstruction. They will then prepare a report for further action.

On the occasion, Minister Mohammed Azharuddin said permanent housing reflected the government’s commitment to social justice. He said the government was distributing houses transparently. Moreover, beneficiaries would receive homes within the city without affecting their livelihoods.

Earlier, District Collector Dr Priyanka Ala said the government distributed allotment letters and keys for 361 houses. The beneficiaries included 187 families from Bandlaguda mandal, 79 families from Asif Nagar mandal and 95 families from Nacharam Colony.

Finally, Government Whip Addanki Dayakar and MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi congratulated the beneficiaries. They welcomed the housing distribution programme.
