Hyderabad: Police leave policy was introduced in Telangana granting mandatory leave to police personnel on their birthdays and wedding anniversaries, in a move aimed at improving morale and work-life balance.
Director General of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy issued orders directing all units to implement the decision. He circulated instructions across departments to ensure that every officer and staff member receives leave on these two personal occasions.
Police personnel often remain occupied with continuous duties and stay away from families while maintaining law and order. Therefore, the department introduced the police leave policy to recognise personal sacrifices and reduce work-related stress.
Police leave policy applies to all ranks with conditions
The policy applies to all personnel, from constables to senior officers, regardless of rank. It allows them to spend important personal days with their families and maintain balance between professional and personal life.
The DGP stated that the measure acknowledges the dedication shown by the police force. He added that unit officers must grant leave when requested under normal conditions.
However, the department issued specific guidelines. Authorities can deny leave during emergencies or exceptional situations. Officers clarified that personnel should not treat the leave as an absolute entitlement.
Leave approval will depend on verified dates recorded in service registers. Applicants must submit requests in advance in writing to their superiors to avail the benefit.
