Telangana recovers 1.24 lakh phones, tops nation using CEIR portal

Hyderabad: Telangana mobile recovery efforts set a national benchmark as the state police traced and returned over 1.24 lakh stolen and lost mobile phones using the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal.

Police across the state recovered 1,24,850 mobile phones and handed them back to owners. As a result, Telangana secured the top position nationally in device recovery performance. The achievement followed extensive use of the CEIR platform introduced by central telecom authorities.

Data showed that between April 19, 2023, and April 26, 2026, police blocked 4,82,652 mobile phones through the portal. Subsequently, officials traced 2,82,260 devices. Out of these, they recovered and unblocked 1,24,850 phones before returning them to victims.

Telangana mobile recovery driven by sustained police effort

CID Director General Charu Sinha attributed the results to consistent field-level policing and sustained effort. She said Telangana achieved the milestone even though the CEIR portal was implemented later in the state compared to others.

Moreover, she stated that Telangana emerged as a model for other states in leveraging the system effectively within a short period. Authorities also integrated the CEIR platform with the Telangana Police Citizen Portal to improve public access.

Therefore, citizens can now register complaints directly through the police portal or the CEIR website to block or trace lost and stolen devices. This integration, in turn, streamlined reporting and improved response time in tracking mobile phones across jurisdictions.
