Hyderabad: The State government appointed C.V. Anand as Director General of Police, naming him head of the Telangana Police ahead of the incumbent’s retirement.
The appointment came on Tuesday through orders issued by Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao. Anand will take charge after current DGP B. Shivdhar Reddy retires on April 30.
Under the order, Anand will assume office in the apex pay scale of Rs 2.25 lakh, fixed. At present, he serves as Special Chief Secretary in the Home Department.

The CV Anand Telangana DGP appointment followed a selection process based on a panel submitted by the Union Public Service Commission. The panel included three senior IPS officers of the 1994 batch.
Apart from Anand, the panel included Vinayak Prabhakar Apte and Soumya Mishra. However, authorities chose Anand as he is the senior-most officer among the shortlisted candidates.
Officials said the process followed established procedures for appointing the head of the State police force. As a result, the appointment ensures continuity in leadership ahead of the incumbent’s superannuation.
CV Anand Telangana DGP to assume charge after April 30
The transition will take place immediately after Shivdhar Reddy demits office at the end of this month. Subsequently, Anand will formally assume charge as the head of police force.
The government described the move as a key administrative decision. Meanwhile, the State continues to focus on strengthening law enforcement and administrative coordination.
Anand’s current role in the Home Department is expected to aid a smooth transition. Therefore, officials indicated that his experience will support continuity in policing and governance.
