Hyderabad: The Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested a Peddapalli municipal engineer after allegedly catching him accepting a ₹2 lakh bribe. Officials also seized ₹32.31 lakh in unaccounted cash during searches at his residence.
The accused, Kallepalli Sathish Kumar, serves as an Assistant Engineer in the Peddapalli Municipality. According to the ACB, he demanded the bribe from a contractor. The payment was allegedly sought to process and forward the final bill of a municipal development work.
The bill related to a ₹12.28 lakh project for developing Hindu graveyards at Tenuguwada and Kunaram Road under Package-IX. The ACB alleged that the official demanded the bribe to forward the bill to the Telangana Urban Finance and Infrastructure Development Corporation for sanction.
Peddapalli municipal engineer trapped by ACB
The ACB’s Karimnagar Unit laid a trap at the official’s residence. It recovered the tainted ₹2 lakh from his possession. Subsequently, officials conducted searches and seized ₹32.31 lakh in unaccounted cash from the house.
Further, the ACB arrested the accused. It will produce him before the Special Judge for SPE and ACB Cases in Karimnagar. The agency said the investigation is continuing.
The ACB withheld the complainant’s identity for security reasons. DSP Mahender Reddy supervised the operation. The bureau also urged citizens to report corruption through its toll-free helpline, 1064.
