DCA seizes illegal oxytocin injections from cattle feed shops in Patancheru

Hyderabad: Telangana Drugs Control Administration officials seized large quantities of Oxytocin injection stock during raids on cattle feed shops in Patancheru on Thursday and Friday.

Officials conducted the raids after receiving credible information about illegal storage of Oxytocin injection bottles used to artificially increase milk production in dairy animals.

During inspections at Sri Renuka Cattle Feed shop near Pati X Road, officials seized 40 unlabeled bottles of 200 ml capacity from owner R. Saikrishna Goud.

Officials also raided Lakshmi Krishna Cattle Feed shop in Chaitanya Nagar Colony. The shop was operated by Mailaram Sairam. During the raid, authorities seized 120 bottles of 250 ml capacity.

Oxytocin injection misuse raises serious health concerns

Meanwhile, officials warned that dairy operators were using Oxytocin injection doses to force higher milk production from cattle. They said the injections severely affected animal health.

Authorities also warned that milk obtained from treated cattle could pose serious health risks to humans.

Officials said children consuming such milk could experience early physical changes and hormonal imbalance.

They also warned that adults could face eyesight-related problems. According to officials, pregnant women faced miscarriage risks, while men could develop infertility-related complications.

The Drugs Control Administration stated that illegal storage or sale of Oxytocin injection stock was an offence under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.

Officials said violators could face imprisonment of up to five years.

Nizamabad DCA Deputy Director K. Das and Patancheru Assistant Director P. Ramu supervised the raids.
