Hyderabad: Former Agriculture Minister Singireddy Niranjan Reddy on Tuesday demanded that the Telangana government immediately release pending Rythu Bharosa funds to all eligible farmers. He alleged that the Congress government had failed to fulfil its election promises on farmer assistance.
In a statement, Niranjan Reddy claimed that the previous BRS government had credited Rythu Bandhu assistance to farmers’ accounts on schedule every cultivation season. He said farmers knew in advance when the financial assistance would reach their bank accounts.
The former minister alleged that the Congress had promised Rs.15,000 per acre annually under Rythu Bharosa for landowners and tenant farmers before the Assembly elections. He also claimed the party had assured assistance for agricultural labourers.
Rythu Bharosa funds delayed, alleges BRS leader
Niranjan Reddy alleged that the Congress government later reduced the assistance to Rs.12,000 per acre. He further claimed that the government had failed to implement the scheme on three occasions after assuming office.
According to him, the government initially released assistance village-wise before switching to an acreage-based system. He alleged that the process was discontinued midway. He also claimed that during the previous Yasangi season, the government restricted payments to farmers owning up to two acres despite earlier assurances.
The former minister criticised the government for organising public meetings while announcing fresh disbursements. He questioned the need for such events instead of directly transferring assistance into farmers’ bank accounts.
Rythu Bharosa funds linked to wider farm issues
Niranjan Reddy also criticised the government’s handling of crop procurement. He alleged that the state had shifted responsibility by stating it would procure only the quantity purchased by the Centre.
He further claimed that the urea application system had created difficulties for farmers. According to the former minister, the government was using Rythu Bharosa announcements to divert attention from these issues.
Niranjan Reddy demanded that the government release pending Rythu Bharosa assistance and extend the scheme to all eligible farmers without delay.
