Hyderabad: Municipal election preparations gathered pace as Chief Minister Revanth Reddy decided to begin the Congress campaign immediately after Sankranti.
According to party sources, the Chief Minister will start his tour on January 16 in the erstwhile Adilabad district. He will lay foundation stones and inaugurate several development works. He will also address a public meeting on the same day.
On January 16, Revanth Reddy will inaugurate the Sadarmat Barrage and visit the Chanakha–Court project. Congress leaders said these programmes would formally mark the start of the municipal election campaign.
Earlier, the party planned to launch the municipal election campaign with a public meeting in Jadcherla on February 3. However, leaders revised the schedule due to time constraints and decided to advance the launch.
Municipal election campaign to include statewide public meetings
On January 17, the Chief Minister will lay the foundation stone for the Triple IT project in Jadcherla. He will also inaugurate development works in Mahabubnagar. Later, he will address a public meeting in the town.
On January 18, Revanth Reddy will take part in foundation-laying programmes at Paleru. Subsequently, he will speak at a Congress workers’ meeting of the erstwhile Khammam district in Khammam town. He will also attend the CPI centenary meeting the same day.
Later that evening, the Chief Minister will travel to Medaram in the Mulugu district and stay overnight. On January 19, he will inaugurate the newly built Sammakka–Saralamma gaddelu at 6.30 am. After offering prayers, he will return to Hyderabad.

From February 3, the Congress plans to hold a series of large municipal election meetings across nine erstwhile districts, excluding Hyderabad. The party aims to organise one public meeting with around one lakh people in each district.
To ensure coordination, the Chief Minister asked ministers to supervise campaign activities. The Pradesh Congress Committee plans district-wise supervision instead of constituency-wise oversight. PCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud said the party would release the final list after discussions with AICC state in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan.
The Congress has set a target of winning 90 per cent of municipal wards and chairperson posts in the upcoming municipal election.
