Hyderabad: Narnur development model gathered pace in Adilabad district after the block secured the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration on April 21, 2025.
The recognition triggered a shift towards a water-centric integrated development strategy across the Narnur block. Authorities initiated the restoration of irrigation tanks soon after the award. They rejuvenated 10 tanks, removed 79,300 cubic metres of silt, and expanded storage capacity by over 3 million cubic metres.
Under the Jal Shakti Abhiyan, officials constructed percolation tanks, check dams, and borewell recharge systems in villages, including Tadihatnoor, Sonapur, Nagalkonda, Janda, and Gunjaal. These works improved groundwater levels and supported farm activity.
Narnur development model driven by water and livelihoods
Officials implemented rainwater harvesting through the “Mana Badi – Mana Neeru” initiative in schools. At the same time, they expanded access to safe drinking water with support from Naandi Waters by installing RO plants in Narnur, Khampur, and Nagalkonda. They also set up an RO unit at the Community Health Centre in Narnur.
Authorities created livelihood options through Mahua laddu units, bamboo processing centres, and dal mills. They ensured market linkages and revolving fund support to help farmers secure better prices.
They introduced lac cultivation on 3,700 trees, benefiting 370 tribal families with sustained income. In agriculture, officials promoted multi-layer farming, drip irrigation, organic methods, beekeeping, and oil palm cultivation. Soil Health Cards supported scientific farming practices.
Under the Aspirational Blocks Programme, housing and tribal welfare initiatives progressed through PM JANMAN. In the health sector, officials rolled out telemedicine, Dharma Seva wellness programmes, and menstrual awareness campaigns. They strengthened anganwadi centres and conducted nutrition melas, while two sub-centres secured NQAS certification.
In education, authorities established digital classrooms, science labs, and libraries. The English literacy programme recorded a 48.6% improvement. They also introduced AI-based teaching tools for children with special needs.
To preserve tribal heritage, officials set up a Tribal Museum and formed Young Leaders Clubs to encourage youth participation.
The integrated push delivered measurable gains across education, health, agriculture, and social sectors. As a result, Narnur secured first rank in the Delta Ranking in the southern region for the September 2025 quarter. It also placed third in the education category in the NITI Aayog State Use Case Challenge.
