Hyderabad: Telangana Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla on Wednesday called for greater Libraries digital technology adoption while preserving their fundamental values and traditions.
Shukla said libraries continued to hold lasting importance in promoting knowledge, education, research and intellectual development. However, he stressed that they also needed to adapt to rapidly changing technological environments.
The Governor spoke as chief guest at the Librarians’ Day celebrations organised by the University of Delhi’s Department of Library and Information Science. The Delhi Library Association jointly organised the programme.
The celebrations marked the birth anniversary of Dr. S.R. Ranganathan, widely regarded as the Father of Library Science in India.
Libraries digital technology shift must preserve values
Paying tribute to Ranganathan, Shukla stressed the need for libraries to embrace technological change without abandoning their core principles.
He said digital platforms had rapidly transformed how people created, stored and accessed information. Therefore, libraries needed to respond to technological developments while retaining their established role as centres of knowledge.
At the same time, Shukla highlighted their continuing contribution to education and research. He said libraries remained vital for expanding people’s access to knowledge.
The Librarians’ Day programme also marked the inauguration of a national conference on “LIS Education in Alignment with NEP 2020.” In addition, organisers inaugurated a renovated lecture and seminar hall as part of the event.

Shukla said technological changes had altered the information environment. Nevertheless, he maintained that libraries continued to support learning, research and intellectual growth.
The Governor’s remarks focused on balancing Libraries digital technology adoption with the values and traditions that defined their role. He also underlined their importance in ensuring access to knowledge despite the rapid expansion of digital information platforms.
