Hyderabad: Hyderabad Traffic Police announced Khairatabad Bada Ganesh traffic diversions from September 12 to 24 to manage devotees visiting the idol for darshan. Police said they would enforce the restrictions between 11 am and late night on a need basis. However, the extent of the curbs would depend on the number of devotees arriving for darshan.
Under the Bada Ganesh traffic diversions, police would redirect vehicles approaching Mint Compound from several directions. Traffic travelling from VV Statue towards Mint Compound via Rajiv Gandhi Statue would turn towards Nirankari Junction at Rajiv Gandhi Statue. Meanwhile, vehicles travelling from Old PS Saifabad towards Bada Ganesh through Rajdoot Lane would proceed towards Iqbal Minar instead.
Bada Ganesh traffic diversions around Khairatabad
Police would divert traffic from Iqbal Minar heading towards IMAX Theatre via Mint Compound towards Secretariat X Road. Similarly, vehicles travelling from Necklace Rotary towards Mint Compound would move towards Secretariat Junction or Khairatabad Flyover.
Traffic approaching from Nirankari through Khairatabad Post Office Lane towards Khairatabad Railway Gate would also face diversion. Police would redirect those vehicles at the Post Office towards Old PS Saifabad Junction.
Authorities expected traffic congestion at several locations around Khairatabad during the darshan period. Therefore, police advised commuters to avoid affected stretches and choose alternative routes.
The congestion points included Khairatabad, Shadan College, Ayodhya, Nirankari, Old PS Saifabad and Mint Compound. Police also expected congestion at NTR Marg, Secretariat Junction, Necklace Rotary, KCP Junction and Masab Tank.
Bada Ganesh traffic diversions include parking arrangements
Police also announced parking arrangements for devotees approaching the Khairatabad Bada Ganesh idol from different directions. Devotees arriving through Necklace Rotary and NTR Gardens could park vehicles at Race Road and NTR Ghat. In addition, they could use HMDA parking beside IMAX Theatre.
The open space opposite IMAX Theatre would also serve as a parking facility. Meanwhile, devotees approaching from Khairatabad Junction could park at Vishweshwaraiah Bhavan.
Traffic Police said they would enforce the restrictions according to crowd levels. Consequently, they requested commuters to follow directions given by traffic personnel deployed in the area. For emergency travel assistance, commuters could contact the Traffic Police helpline at 9010203626.
Joel Davis, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Hyderabad, appealed to the public to follow the advisory. He also requested commuters and devotees to cooperate with Traffic Police personnel during the Bada Ganesh traffic diversions.
