Hyderabad: Police registered a Kandukur electrocution case after a 17-year-old boy died from an electric shock while trying to retrieve a cricket ball from the roof of a house located beneath an 11 kV power line in Kandukur police station limits of Rangareddy district. Inspector H. Venkateshwarlu said the investigation was underway based on a complaint alleging negligence by the house owner, electricity department officials and the village secretary.
According to the complaint filed by Meghavath Hanumanth, a resident of Banjarugadda Thanda in Kandukur mandal, the Electricity Department had earlier erected an 11 kV power line passing through the village. Later, a resident identified as Ramesh allegedly constructed a house directly beneath the overhead power line. The complainant alleged that the concerned officials and the village secretary failed to prevent the construction and did not ensure required safety measures.
On July 13, 2026, at around 6 pm, the complainant’s son, Meghavath Charan (17), was playing cricket when the ball landed on the roof of Ramesh’s house. While climbing onto the roof to retrieve it, he accidentally came into contact with the nearby high-voltage power line and suffered a fatal electric shock. He died at the scene.
