Hyderabad: Excise, Tourism, Culture and Archaeology Minister Jupally Krishna Rao said the government is exploring the potential for Wine tourism Telangana by studying successful international models and assessing opportunities within the state.
During his visit to the United States, the minister toured Stone Tower Winery in Leesburg, Virginia. He joined a cellar tour and examined winery management practices and the wine-making process.
He also visited another winery in Ashburn, Virginia. There, he interacted with winery representatives and studied grape cultivation, suitable grape varieties, processing, fermentation, storage, bottling, quality standards and marketing practices.
Wine tourism Telangana may boost grape cultivation
The minister said Ranga Reddy and Vikarabad districts have the potential to develop vineyard-based tourism because of their proximity to Hyderabad and favourable conditions for grape cultivation. He said the government would study climate conditions, land suitability and investment models before taking further steps.
According to Jupally Krishna Rao, wine tourism can offer visitors a unique travel experience. In addition, it can encourage grape cultivation, attract private investment and create local employment opportunities.
He said the Telangana Tourism Policy 2025–30 gives priority to developing innovative tourism products. He added that the Telangana Tourism Conclave received investment proposals worth more than ₹15,000 crore for various tourism projects.
The minister said one proposal includes the state’s first vineyard resort with a winery walkthrough experience. Visitors would be able to observe the entire wine-making process, from grape cultivation to bottling. They would also get an opportunity to experience traditional grape stamping.
Finally, Jupally Krishna Rao said the government would examine global best practices and develop a wine tourism model suited to Telangana. He said the proposal would integrate vineyards, wineries, hospitality and local cuisine while complying with applicable regulations.
Government Whip Yennam Srinivas Reddy and Tandur MLA Buyyani Manohar Reddy accompanied the minister during the visit.
