Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka announced that the Telangana government will launch the Indiramma Bheema scheme across the state on June 2 as a State Formation Day gift. He said the insurance programme would provide financial security to 1.15 crore families, regardless of caste, religion, or economic background.
Bhatti said the Congress government was implementing every promise made during the elections and delivering welfare benefits directly to poor households. He stated that the Indiramma Bheema scheme would ensure that families do not face financial hardship after losing the head of the family in an accident.
The Deputy Chief Minister said every eligible family would receive insurance coverage of ₹5 lakh in such cases. He added that government officials would soon conduct household visits to collect beneficiary details for the scheme.
Bhatti criticised the previous BRS government and alleged that families of farmers who died by suicide struggled even to secure limited financial assistance. Therefore, the present government decided to introduce a universal protection mechanism through the Indiramma Bheema scheme.
Women groups to get solar power projects under Indiramma Bheema scheme
Bhatti Vikramarka said the government was focusing on turning women into entrepreneurs instead of limiting them to welfare beneficiaries. He announced that a new programme to allot solar power plants to women’s self-help groups would be launched on May 27 at Rajupalem village in Errupalem mandal of Madhira constituency.
He said the government was providing interest-free loans worth ₹20,000 crore every year to women’s groups. If required, the assistance would be increased up to ₹1 lakh crore.
The Deputy Chief Minister also said women were already benefiting from free travel in RTC buses across Telangana. In addition, the government planned to introduce 550 special RTC buses exclusively for women entrepreneurs. The target was to create one crore women millionaires in the state.
Bhatti said the government was supplying premium fine rice free of cost to 1.06 crore families. He added that the Gruhajyothi scheme was reducing the electricity burden on 53 lakh families by offering free power up to 200 units. According to him, nearly 95% of households in several villages were receiving zero electricity bills.
The Deputy Chief Minister alleged that the previous BRS government misled people in the name of double-bedroom housing projects. He said the present government was providing ₹5 lakh financial assistance to poor families for house construction and had already sanctioned 4.5 lakh houses statewide.
Bhatti further announced that the State Cabinet recently approved an additional 2 lakh houses. He said making Telangana a hut-free state remained the government’s top priority.
