Hyderabad: Minister for IT and Industries Duddilla Sridhar Babu inaugurated India’s first CMP Pad Hub in Hyderabad on Saturday, saying the facility would strengthen Telangana’s ambition to become one of the country’s leading semiconductor hubs.
The centre was established at T-Works in collaboration with Japan-based Toho Koki Seisakusho Co. Ltd. It is dedicated to Chemical Mechanical Polishing (CMP) Pad Technologies, a key component used in semiconductor chip manufacturing.
Speaking after the inauguration, the Minister said the State government was following a planned strategy to build a strong semiconductor ecosystem. He said the CMP Pad Hub would support that vision by bringing advanced technology to India for the first time through Hyderabad.
CMP pads are used to planarise semiconductor wafers during chip manufacturing. Until now, India has relied entirely on imports for this technology. The new hub marks the first time CMP pad technology has been made available in the country.
CMP Pad Hub to support research and manufacturing
Sridhar Babu said the centre would provide training and technical support to students, researchers, innovators, startups and industries. He added that collaborative research would be carried out with educational institutions, research organisations, industries and MSMEs.
The Minister said the partnership aims to manufacture CMP pads in India within the next 18 to 24 months. He added that Telangana is working with countries such as Japan to access advanced semiconductor technologies and strengthen local capabilities.
He also said the State government is preparing a dedicated roadmap to develop a complete semiconductor ecosystem covering research, innovation and chip manufacturing across the value chain.
